Spirit View: A Word from the Spirit Dude

The beauty of our organization lies in our commitment to Service.

And our embrace of Anarchy.

When a man steps into the East Bay Circle of Men they are invited to step forward--A space is tailor made to fit their shape--whatever it may be. Men have led our annual events and stepped into leadership after months of membership--others have orbited on the periphery for years.  We make space for men to step into leadership--or not.  Our culture trusts the inner compass of each man---and our organization's ability to withstand challenges.

And so, I’ve always been able to trust my yeses and my no’s. I have been invited to step into Council Leadership 3 times--by three men I respect.

Not until this last invitation was my life was in a place where I could be a “yes” to being of Service to The Men. I see my role as Spirit Lead with two primary facets:

1.     To serve the Spirit of the Men as individuals. Tracking and supporting the spiritual, emotional, and psychological well being of our community.

2.     To Serve the Spirit of the East Bay Circle of Men.

So what does # 2 mean?  In my perception there is a palpable spiritual energy that has been cultivated for almost 30 years by men gathering together to be of service to one another and the community. Some call it the Overlighting Spirit of The East Bay Circle of Men. This Spirit is nourished by our gatherings and our Sacred Circles--and in turn this Spirit supports us in all ways. A simple way to put it is that when we gather together--we are more than the sum of our parts because this Spirit adds extra juice to what we do.

If that sounds weird to you or doesn’t make sense--that’s fine--it’s my job to track that--and I am supported by many men who do the same.

In addition to my understanding of what it means to be the Spirit Lead, I’d like to share what that looks like in practice. Here is a summary of Spirit related Initiatives and Conversations that I am involved with (and invite you into as well):

Awesomeness Amidst the Isolation- Last month, 11 men came together to support one another to feel more connected in these strange times. Accountability buddies, walking partners, and check in calls emerged.

A committee formed to create an interest database so men can easily find like minded men to hang with. Please input your information in this document here: http://bit.ly/EBCOMInterest

and come to our next meeting on January 14th at 7pm Here:

Spread the Love Videos New Year’s Videos-- My first act in 2021 was to invite Men to spread the love by sending New Year’s Blessings to 3 men: one you admire, one you miss, and one you are curious about. It’s not too late--you can see the intro clip I sent here: https://youtu.be/YoMx4s1iUSM
